School of Marxism of Guizhou University
The School of Marxism of Guizhou University originates from the Marxism-Leninism Teaching Department, which was separated from the Department of Philosophy in 1987. In 1997, it merged with the Department of Social Sciences at Guizhou Agricultural College. Then, in 2004, it underwent another merger with the Department of Social Sciences at Guizhou University of Technology, resulting in the formation of its current structure. In 2013, it was officially renamed the School of Marxism of Guizhou University.
The college is one of the first key Marxism colleges in Guizhou Province, currently consisting eight teaching and research offices for public political theory courses, with a total of 135 full-time faculty members. In its faculty, there is one member of the Teaching Steering Committee for Ideological and Political Courses in Colleges and Universities of the Ministry of Education, two influential figures of ideological and political course teachers in colleges and universities nationwide, one recipient of the Selective Funding Plan for Outstanding Young and Middle-aged Teachers of Ideological and Political Course in colleges and universities, one recipient of the National Baosteel Excellent Teacher Award, four provincial experts, five provincial teaching masters, four provincial academic leaders in philosophy and social sciences, two provincial academic pioneers, and two provincial young academic pioneers. The School offers the graduate degree program of the first-level discipline of Marxist Theory, including four areas: Basic Principles of Marxism, Studies of Adapting Marxism to China’s Conditions, Ideological and Political Education, and Studies of Basic Issues of Modern and Early Modern Chinese history.
Guided by Marxism-Leninism, Mao Zedong Thought, Deng Xiaoping Theory, the Theory of “Three Represents”, the Scientific Outlook on Development, and Xi Jinping’s Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era.The School upholds the Party's educational policies, emphasizing the critical role of ideological and political theory courses as the main channel and stronghold. In recent years, the School has been approved to establish one national and two provincial-level teaching studio for ideological and political education, received one first prize and two second prizes in the national teaching exhibition, three first prizes for provincial teaching achievement awards, and has three courses selected into provincial excellent courses and first-class courses, and three courses have been selected as Good Courses for administration training in Guizhou Province. Additionally, it has been approved to establish one provincial virtual simulation experience center for “red culture” education. The School has also obtained 18 projects funded by the National Social Science Fund and 30 scientific research projects at the provincial and ministerial levels. Its faculty members have published 150 academic papers in CSSCI journals such as Studies on Marxism, People’s Daily, Guangming Daily, Economic Daily and Qiushi, with 20 of them being reprinted in full text by China Social Sciences Digest, Information Center For Social Sciences, RUC. It has also published 18 monographs with publishers like People's Publishing House. It has also received numerous awards, including a third prize for outstanding scientific research achievements of colleges and universities of the Ministry of Education and 17 awards for outstanding achievements in philosophy and social sciences in Guizhou Province. Relevant consulting reports have received instructions from national leaders twice and from provincial and ministerial leaders 12 times.
